Maran HaGaon HaRav Dov Landau, Rosh Yeshivas Slabodka, has issued an unusually forceful handwritten letter condemning efforts to establish a new Chareidi political party, warning that its activities are causing serious harm to Chareidi Jewry and declaring his determination to oppose the initiative.

The letter, which has circulated publicly alongside a printed Hebrew transcription, comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the newly established HaTzibur HaChareidi party, which seeks to challenge the longstanding Chareidi political factions.

In the strongly worded message, Rav Landau responded to arguments presented by supporters of the new movement, making clear that he firmly rejects their approach.

“My son, so-and-so, told me your words, which are a great mistake, if not a greater wickedness,” the letter begins, according to the published Hebrew text.

Rav Landau then delivers an unmistakable warning against the party's activities.

“I will fight against you with all the strength I have, and even the strength I do not have,” he writes, adding that those promoting the initiative are causing great harm to Chareidi Judaism.

The letter goes on to compare the actions of the movement's supporters to severe Torah prohibitions, using particularly sharp language to emphasize the seriousness with which Rav Landau views the matter.

“Your actions are like eating forbidden fats on Yom Kippur and chametz on Seder night,” the letter states.

Rav Landau explains that he is writing in order to stress the gravity of the issue and urges those involved to reconsider their course.

“Retract your position, retract it, and do not cause harm,” he writes.

The letter concludes with an expression of deep personal anguish over the situation and bears Rav Landau's name.

According to reports in the Israeli media, the letter was directed to Rav Yosef Ben Arza, who has been associated with discussions surrounding the new political movement and the representation of working Chareidim.

The controversy comes as the HaTzibur HaChareidi party seeks to establish itself as an alternative to the existing Chareidi political framework, raising questions about communal representation and the authority of established Torah leadership.

Rav Landau's intervention represents a significant escalation in the dispute, placing one of the leading Roshei Yeshivos in Eretz Yisrael firmly against the new initiative.

His message leaves little doubt about the strength of his opposition, as he calls upon those involved to abandon their efforts and avoid what he describes as serious damage to Chareidi Jewry.
