A 31-year-old Florida man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to carry out a mass shooting at a developing Orthodox Jewish community in Glades County, Florida, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
The suspect, identified as Jerry Ray Sneed of Orlando, was taken into custody on Wednesday, October 28, following an investigation into threatening social media activity directed at Lakefront Estates, a new Jewish residential development near Lake Okeechobee.
According to authorities, the investigation began on October 19 after law enforcement became aware of online threats targeting the community. Investigators said the threatening posts included photographs of a firearm and information identifying the location of the development.
FDLE investigators subsequently identified Sneed as the alleged source of the threats and arrested him.
Sneed faces charges involving written or electronic threats to commit violence or a mass shooting, as well as unlawful use of a two-way communication device. The case is being handled by the State Attorney's Office for Florida's 20th Judicial Circuit.
Lakefront Estates is a developing Orthodox Jewish residential community intended to provide housing and communal infrastructure for Jewish families. The project includes plans for shuls, yeshivos, and other facilities serving the growing community.
The alleged threats have raised concerns about the safety of Jewish residents and families planning to relocate to the development.
Authorities have not reported that a shooting occurred. The investigation remains ongoing.
