IDF Cancels Mass Arrests of Lomdei Torah Due to Friction With National Police

The IDF has scrapped plans for a major operation scheduled for next week that would have seen mass arrests of yeshiva bochurim for failing to report for the military draft.
According to military officials, the widespread raids were canceled due to a dispute with the national police. Police officials had demanded that the IDF provide an additional 300 soldiers to handle the massive protests expected to erupt in response to the arrests. The military pushed back, arguing that crowd control and managing protests is solely the responsibility of the police.
As a result of this internal squabble between the police and the military, the large-scale operation has been shelved for the time being. Nevertheless, authorities note that individual arrests of bochurim are still expected to be carried out.
