Officials say the chase only ended after law enforcement used a spike strip, damaging the vehicle's tire and forcing it to slow down near the Fabens exit. Moments later, the vehicle's occupants bailed out and scattered on foot, triggering a tense chase near a Speedway gas station.

What happened next escalated the danger dramatically. One of the suspects, still fleeing law enforcement, approached a civilian at the gas station and carjacked her at gunpoint in broad daylight. The terrifying encounter was captured separately by a bystander, showing just how quickly the situation shifted from a highway pursuit to a direct threat against an innocent bystander. Fortunately, the victim did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, though she was taken to a hospital for treatment as a precaution.
