ICE agents in Glen Burnie, Maryland, fired defensively after a van reportedly attempted to ram their vehicles during an enforcement operation, according to officials. Anne Arundel County Police confirmed that the incident involved a van accelerating toward ICE vehicles, prompting agents to discharge their weapons in self-defense.

The driver, identified as Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins, and a passenger, Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, were injured during the incident. Both individuals are undocumented immigrants and are currently in stable condition, according to Department of Homeland Security and local police reports. One person sustained gunshot wounds, while the other suffered minor injuries.

Video from the Anne Arundel County Police press conference corroborates initial reports, emphasizing that local law enforcement was not involved in the operation. The footage shows officials describing the incident as a defensive response by ICE agents fearing for their safety amid rising tensions surrounding immigration enforcement.

Multiple news outlets, including CNN and NBC, reported on the incident, noting that ICE agents acted in accordance with protocol when faced with a direct threat. Authorities stressed that the situation unfolded rapidly, and officers acted to neutralize the immediate danger posed by the van.

The event underscores the challenges and risks faced by federal agents in conducting enforcement operations, particularly in high-stakes scenarios involving vehicles and potential assaults. Investigations are ongoing, and officials continue to monitor the condition of those injured while reviewing body camera and scene footage to ensure all actions were appropriate and justified.
