Finnish authorities have seized a cargo ship sailing from Russia after suspecting it of sabotaging an undersea telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea, marking the latest escalation in a series of incidents targeting critical infrastructure in the region.

The vessel, identified as the cargo ship Fitburg, was en route from the Russian port of St. Petersburg to Israel when Finnish police and Border Guard forces stormed and detained it in the Gulf of Finland. Officials confirmed the seizure during a press conference in Helsinki, citing concerns that the ship may be connected to damage inflicted on a vital telecoms cable linking Helsinki and Estonia.
