General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, provided a comprehensive operational update during a Pentagon briefing on March 10, 2026, detailing the extensive U.S. military campaign against Iran. According to Caine, American forces have conducted strikes on more than 5,000 Iranian targets and sunk over 50 naval vessels, representing a substantial escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The briefing included maps illustrating the density of strikes across Iran, demonstrating U.S. air dominance and precision targeting. Military analysts note that this operational superiority has led to a reported 86% reduction in Iranian missile launches, enabling U.S. forces to shift toward cost-effective munitions for broader inland operations without the deployment of ground troops.

Officials emphasized that the campaign’s strategy relies on air and naval power to degrade Iran’s military capabilities while minimizing direct U.S. troop involvement. The combination of precision strikes and sustained bombardment has disrupted Iran’s command-and-control networks, limited operational mobility, and constrained the regime’s ability to retaliate effectively.

The briefing also highlighted the impact of U.S. operations on Iran’s strategic posture. Reduced missile launches and naval losses have created significant operational challenges for Tehran, affecting both defensive readiness and offensive planning. Military planners assert that sustained air dominance is critical to maintaining momentum in the campaign and ensuring that subsequent operations can proceed efficiently.

Observers note that the campaign represents one of the most intensive coordinated U.S. military efforts against Iran in decades. By targeting both maritime and inland assets, the United States aims to limit Tehran’s ability to project power regionally, disrupt its nuclear program, and degrade the effectiveness of its missile arsenal.
