Analyst Calls Hamas Deal a Full Surrender Under Trump’s Peace Plan

Palestinian-American analyst Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib has described the July 2026 agreement between Hamas and the Board of Peace as a clear form of surrender and an admission of defeat for the terror group. Speaking candidly, Alkhatib argued that the carefully worded deal allows Hamas to avoid public humiliation while still requiring full disarmament and the end of its governing and military roles in Gaza. The assessment from a frequent critic of Hamas underscores the significance of the breakthrough announced by President Trump. It represents a major step forward in the Comprehensive Peace Plan aimed at permanently changing the reality on the ground.

Under the Board of Peace-brokered framework, Hamas and other armed factions must phase in the handover of their weapons to a new technocratic National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. This process is linked to phased Israeli troop withdrawals and the deployment of international stabilization forces. Heavy weapons, production sites, tunnels, and stockpiles are to be inventoried, decommissioned, and placed under the control of the new civilian authority. The structure ensures that Gaza can no longer serve as a launchpad for attacks against Israel while opening the door to reconstruction and improved governance for Palestinian civilians.

Alkhatib’s analysis highlights how the agreement’s language was crafted to give Hamas a face-saving exit after years of military pressure and isolation. By framing the process through international mechanisms and a Palestinian technocratic body, the deal extracts the core concession—complete disarmament—without forcing an explicit public confession of failure. For observers who have long argued that Hamas cannot be negotiated with as a permanent governing force, this outcome validates the strategy of combining strong Israeli security operations with firm American diplomatic leadership.

President Trump’s Board of Peace has delivered what previous approaches failed to achieve: a formal commitment from Hamas to relinquish its arms and governing authority. While implementation will require careful verification and sustained pressure, the agreement itself marks a historic shift. Israel gains the prospect of a demilitarized southern border, and the people of Gaza gain a path away from perpetual war under terrorist rule. This is the kind of results-oriented diplomacy the Trump administration was elected to pursue.
