MANCHESTER — Two teenagers arrested in a Jewish neighborhood of Salford while allegedly carrying a knife, hammer, lighter fuel and spray paint have been remanded in custody as a counter-terror investigation into the incident continues.
Harley Elliot and McKenzie Smyth, both 19, appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court, where they were ordered held for an additional seven days.
The pair were arrested after police responded to reports of two men acting suspiciously in a Jewish area of Salford during the early morning hours of September 6.
According to the charges, the two allegedly possessed offensive weapons—a hammer and a kitchen knife—as well as spray paint and lighter fuel allegedly intended for damaging or destroying property.
Counter Terrorism Policing North West is leading the investigation together with Greater Manchester Police. Authorities have not publicly established a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
No pleas were entered during the hearing and no applications for bail were made. The pair are due back before the court on September 21.
