A vital lifeline connecting some of India's most remote border settlements has been severed after a bridge over the Lohit River in Arunachal Pradesh's Anjaw district was damaged, cutting off road access to several villages, including Kaho, one of the country's easternmost settlements near the India-China border. The KKG-BSB bridge, commonly known as Krowti Bridge, is located in Kibithoo Circle and has long served as the only vehicular link connecting Musai, Kaho, and Dong to the rest of the region. Video circulating from the scene shows a heavily loaded yellow dump truck stranded and dangerously tilted on the narrow suspension structure, with misty, mountainous terrain surrounding the bridge as workers scramble to assess the damage. The incident has left one of India's most strategically sensitive frontier areas without its primary route in or out.

Local officials have confirmed that the damage stems from repeated crossings by overloaded vehicles, despite the bridge's load-bearing limits being clearly marked. Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul, who represents the constituency, said the structure had been showing signs of strain for some time due to drivers routinely ignoring posted weight restrictions. Following the latest incident involving the stranded truck, authorities moved quickly to prohibit all vehicular and pedestrian movement across the bridge, citing serious safety concerns for anyone attempting to cross. The closure means that residents of Kaho, Musai, and Dong currently have no direct road access to Kibithoo or the broader district.

The strategic importance of this stretch of road cannot be overstated. Kaho sits along the Line of Actual Control near the India-China border, and the Krowti Bridge represents one of the only motorable connections linking these frontier villages to the rest of Arunachal Pradesh. With the bridge now closed indefinitely, the communities that depend on it for essential supplies, medical access, and general mobility are effectively isolated until repairs are completed. District authorities have acknowledged the urgency of the situation given the region's remoteness and its proximity to the international border.

In response, officials have directed the concerned department to carry out a detailed technical inspection of the bridge as a top priority. Once the assessment is complete, repair and restoration work is expected to begin to bring the structure back to safe operating condition. Until then, both vehicle and foot traffic remain strictly banned, and authorities have appealed to drivers and residents to respect load limits going forward to prevent similar incidents. MLA Pul emphasized that negligence in following these restrictions doesn't just endanger individual lives, it threatens the very infrastructure entire border communities rely on to stay connected to the rest of the country.
