TALLAHASSEE, FL — In a striking show of support for President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, the state of Florida has deputized over 3,000 local police officers and state troopers as federal immigration agents. This unprecedented move underscores Florida’s aggressive alignment with federal enforcement priorities, effectively turning state law enforcement into an extension of ICE operations.

The policy comes amid a nationwide spike in ICE arrests, with Florida accounting for 11.1% of all apprehensions from January to June 2027, and Texas leading at 23.2%. Immigration analysts say the Florida initiative could significantly ramp up detention and deportation rates across the Southeast.

Critics warn the measure risks undermining trust between immigrant communities and local law enforcement, while supporters argue it enhances national security and border integrity.
