Japanese F-15J Makes Emergency Landing After Landing Gear Failure at Naha

A Japan Air Self-Defense Force F-15J fighter from the 304th Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Naha Air Base made an emergency landing at Naha Airport in Okinawa on Tuesday after its left main landing gear failed on touchdown. White smoke trailed the aircraft, with reports of flames or sparks visible near the rear as it came to a stop tilted to one side. Emergency crews, including fire trucks, responded immediately. The pilot exited the aircraft safely and no injuries were reported.

The jet had been returning from a scramble mission when the mechanical failure occurred. One of the airport’s two runways was temporarily closed while recovery operations took place, but commercial flights continued on the remaining runway with some delays. The aircraft was later lifted by crane and removed from the runway after several hours. Japanese authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the landing gear collapse.
