York Regional Police have released bodycam and dashcam footage of an arrest that looks more like a football highlight reel than a routine traffic stop. The video, filmed August 9 in Richmond Hill, Ontario, shows a motorcyclist who had allegedly fled a collision without exchanging information, ignoring officers' commands and continuing on even after being told he was under arrest. He eventually stopped at 16th Avenue and Mural Street, sitting on his bike in a way officers described as taunting them to give chase. Instead, one officer quietly rolled his cruiser onto the grass, stepped out, crept up from behind, and delivered a full blindside tackle that knocked the rider off his motorcycle and onto the ground.
York Regional Police leaned fully into the football comparison when they posted the clip, timing it to an NFL broadcast theme and writing that officers are happy the league is back, adding the tongue-in-cheek reminder that rule number one of football is keeping your head on a swivel. The department also called the takedown a beautiful form tackle with a blindside approach, and officers on scene were seen holding up the motorcycle's license plate, which read RUN THIS. The rider now faces multiple charges, including flight from a peace officer, failure to stop after an accident, driving without insurance, failure to disclose insurance particulars, and use of an unauthorized plate. The video has since gone viral, with viewers praising the officer's patience and timing as much as the department's sense of humor.
