Police in London are investigating after a group of youths reportedly launched two fireworks toward Lauderdale Road Synagogue in Maida Vale on Sunday afternoon, during the second day of Rosh Hashanah.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called at 3:56 p.m. on September 13 following reports of suspects discharging fireworks at a synagogue in Westminster. The suspects had left before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made. Police said CCTV inquiries are continuing.
Security footage reportedly showed five youths outside the synagogue before two fireworks were launched toward the building. The synagogue was empty at the time, and no injuries or damage were reported.
The historic shul is part of London's Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi Community. The incident was also reported to the Community Security Trust, which is working with police as investigators seek to establish the circumstances.
Police have increased patrols in the area following the incident, saying the additional presence is intended to reassure and protect Jewish communities during the Yom Tov period. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact police as the investigation continues.
