U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scot Bessent expressed strong optimism ahead of President Donald Trump’s anticipated meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling the discussions “fantastic for U.S. citizens, for U.S. farmers, and for our country in general.”

Speaking to reporters, Bessent said he believes “the framework is in place for the two leaders to have a very productive meeting for both sides,” underscoring the Trump administration’s commitment to securing fair trade, market access, and economic growth for American workers and industries.

The upcoming Trump-Xi meeting is expected to focus on resetting economic relations between the world’s two largest economies, addressing trade imbalances, intellectual property protections, and agricultural exports—key priorities for the U.S. Treasury and the White House.

Bessent, a longtime Trump ally and architect of the administration’s pro-growth financial policies, emphasized that the President’s hands-on approach to diplomacy continues to yield tangible results for the American economy. “President Trump believes in results, not rhetoric,” Bessent added. “This meeting is about putting America first while finding practical solutions that benefit everyone.”

White House sources suggest the talks could open new channels for U.S. agricultural exports to China, particularly in soybeans and beef, helping strengthen rural economies and reduce trade friction. Analysts also view the meeting as a sign that both nations are seeking a stable and mutually beneficial path forward after years of tariff disputes and global market uncertainty.

As the world watches closely, the Trump administration remains firm in its stance that any future economic cooperation with China must serve American interests first—a principle that has guided U.S. trade policy since Trump’s return to office.
