Two Iranians Charged in Alleged Terror Plot Targeting Manchester Jewish Community

Two Iranian nationals have been charged in Britain over an alleged terrorist plot targeting the Jewish community in Manchester, with prosecutors saying the suspects conducted surveillance of potential Jewish targets and planned to use a homemade explosive device.

Rahman Salehi and Salam Ahmadyan were arrested on September 20, on the eve of Yom Kippur, following a counterterrorism investigation in Greater Manchester. Britain's Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that both men were charged with engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism. Crown Prosecution Service

Prosecutors told Westminster Magistrates' Court that potential targets allegedly surveyed by the suspects included the Manchester Jewish Museum and Heaton Park Synagogue. Reuters

The prosecution alleges that the two men planned to use a homemade explosive device and were in contact with a third person who provided instructions and helped coordinate the alleged plot. Authorities believe that individual is also Iranian and may be operating from Iran. Reuters

Both defendants were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at London's Old Bailey on October 23. Neither man has entered a plea, and the allegations have not been proven in court. Reuters

British authorities stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and sought to reassure the Jewish community following the arrests.
