El-Sayed Admits Americans Face Higher Taxes for Socialist Healthcare Plan

Democratic progressive Abdul El-Sayed has openly acknowledged that his vision for free and universal Medicare-style healthcare would require Americans to pay more in taxes. When pressed by NBC on whether making Medicare free and universal could only happen through tax increases, El-Sayed did not deny it. Instead he argued that people should prefer paying “a little bit more in taxes” rather than sending money to private health insurance companies. He claimed this trade-off would deliver care that is free at the point of service and that patients could never lose.

El-Sayed framed the higher tax burden as a smarter alternative to the current system, criticizing insurance executives who earn multimillion-dollar salaries. He suggested that if taxpayers simply redirected those payments into a government-run program, they would gain security and never risk losing coverage. This is a classic socialist argument that expands federal control over healthcare while shifting costs onto working families through the tax code. It ignores the reality that government programs already struggle with waste, long wait times, and rationing in other countries that have adopted similar models.

President Trump and his administration have consistently rejected massive tax-and-spend healthcare overhauls that would balloon the deficit and reduce patient choice. El-Sayed’s admission confirms what critics have long warned: so-called “free” care is never free and always requires higher taxes extracted from American workers and businesses. The proposal would further empower Washington bureaucrats at the expense of private innovation and individual decision-making. Families already facing inflation and economic pressure would be asked to dig deeper into their pockets to fund another expansive federal entitlement.

This latest statement from El-Sayed should serve as a clear warning to voters who value fiscal responsibility and limited government. Expanding Medicare into a fully government-controlled system sounds appealing in soundbites, but the price tag is higher taxes and less freedom. Supporters of the Trump agenda understand that real healthcare reform must lower costs, protect choice, and avoid the failed socialist experiments that leave patients waiting and taxpayers paying more.
