British Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged to strengthen protection for Jewish communities across the United Kingdom as the country continues to face a rise in antisemitic incidents.

In a statement issued Wednesday, October 7, Burnham said his government would take action against threats, harassment, and violence targeting Jewish people.

The Prime Minister said the government is funding security measures for shuls, Jewish schools, and community buildings. He also promised action against antisemitism in schools, universities, and neighborhoods.

Burnham referred to the deadly attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester last year, along with additional threats against Jewish institutions.

According to figures released by the Community Security Trust, 1,926 antisemitic incidents were recorded across Britain during the first six months of 2026, an increase of approximately 20 percent compared with the same period last year.

The Prime Minister said Jewish residents should be able to live safely and practice their religion without fear of threats or violence.

His statement came as Jewish communities marked the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks.
