A massive train derailment sent flames and thick smoke billowing into the sky Tuesday afternoon near the small town of Gordon, Texas, after 35 cars of a Union Pacific freight train left the tracks. Several tanker cars piled on top of one another, sparking brush fires that quickly spread around the crash site.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Robynn Tysver confirmed there were no injuries and no evacuation orders issued. However, officials are investigating whether the train was carrying hazardous chemicals, which could pose additional risks to the surrounding area.

Firefighters from multiple counties rushed to contain the blaze, while rail crews worked to assess damage and clear the wreckage. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation, with officials saying it may take days to fully determine what went wrong.

Residents reported hearing a loud crash followed by explosions as the fires intensified, with plumes visible for miles. The incident has disrupted rail traffic through the region, and authorities warn that cleanup efforts could be lengthy due to the scale of the wreckage and potential environmental hazards.
