Secretary Sean Duffy issued a sharp warning today as the government shutdown drags into its second month, urging Democrats to immediately approve funding measures to keep critical U.S. workforces operational. Speaking from Washington, Duffy underscored the growing strain on federal agencies and essential services, calling the stalemate both unnecessary and dangerous.

“When you don’t fund the government, it becomes really challenging to find dollars to pay the different components of really critical workforces that keep our country moving forward — and again, it’s simple: Democrats, open up the government,” Duffy said.

The Secretary’s remarks highlight the real-world impact of political gridlock that has left thousands of federal employees furloughed and key departments struggling to operate effectively. From transportation safety to national security functions, the shutdown has hampered vital programs that Americans rely on daily.

Duffy’s comments align with President Trump’s consistent message that the Republican-led funding proposal is ready and waiting — but Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked votes to reopen the government. Despite 14 prior attempts to pass funding bills, the opposition has held firm, citing demands for additional spending and policy concessions.

“The American people are tired of political games,” Duffy added, emphasizing that the impasse is hurting working families, contractors, and small businesses that depend on government operations. “This shouldn’t be about party politics. It should be about keeping our country running.”

As the economic costs mount, the Trump administration continues to project confidence that the standoff will end once Democrats recognize the toll their obstruction is taking on ordinary Americans. For Secretary Duffy and other administration leaders, the message remains straightforward: reopen the government, restore stability, and put America’s workers first.
