Video footage has surfaced of a pink-hued dolphin rising to the surface and swimming alongside darker companions in choppy waters off the coast of Oman. The sighting took place near Qantab Beach in Muscat around mid-October 2026, and it quickly went viral after beachgoers filmed the pod close to shore. The pink animal stands out sharply against the rest of the group, which is a big part of why the clip spread so fast. The footage does not make clear exactly when it was filmed or how long the pod stayed in view.

Marine experts say the pink tone could come from different causes depending on the species. In Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, it is linked to blood vessels near the skin flushing, while in older Risso's dolphins it can come from an accumulation of scars. Both types are found in Omani waters, which are home to around 20 species of whales and dolphins. The species of this dolphin has not been confirmed, so the cause of the color remains uncertain. Researchers would need a closer look at the footage, or the animal itself, to say more.
