The Israel Defense Forces announced that it eliminated Shadi Abu Hatira, described as a central money changer for Hamas’s military wing, in an airstrike in the Gaza City area. According to the IDF, Abu Hatira headed the “Geneva” exchange network, which allegedly transferred tens of millions of shekels in foreign currency to the group. Those funds were said to have been used to pay operatives, rebuild military infrastructure, and support attack planning against Israeli forces. The military stated that the individual had also been involved in commercial activities through a company that facilitated the money transfers and had recently worked to restore Hamas capabilities in violation of the ceasefire.

The IDF said the strike was carried out with precision munitions and aerial surveillance to reduce the risk of civilian harm. It framed the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt Hamas’s financial networks and prevent the group from reconstituting its military capabilities. The announcement comes amid continued Israeli strikes in Gaza despite the ceasefire framework, with both sides accusing each other of violations. The targeting of financial facilitators underscores the emphasis Israel places on cutting off funding streams that it claims sustain Hamas’s operations on the ground.
