Intel shares jumped more than 7% in early trading Tuesday after two major developments boosted investor confidence in the U.S. chipmaker.

First, SoftBank announced a $2 billion investment in Intel, signaling strong faith in the company’s long-term prospects amid rising global demand for semiconductors.

At the same time, reports surfaced that the Trump administration is weighing a potential stake in Intel, which could make the U.S. government the company’s largest shareholder. Such a move would mark a significant step in Washington’s efforts to secure domestic chip production and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.

The dual announcements come as Intel works to reclaim its position at the forefront of the global semiconductor race, investing heavily in advanced manufacturing and competing against rivals like TSMC, Samsung, and NVIDIA.

Analysts say the news could mark a turning point for Intel, which has faced years of pressure over delays in chip development and market share losses. Both Wall Street and policymakers appear to see Intel as a strategic player in securing America’s technological future.
