The Israeli military says it killed two senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad commanders in separate strikes carried out in Gaza City on Friday. The first strike killed Ahmed Mahmoud Harb Ramlawi, who the IDF identifies as a commander in the rocket unit of Islamic Jihad's Shejaiya Battalion. A second, separate strike killed Munir Ibrahim Masri, described by the military as the head of the group's anti-tank missile squad. According to the IDF, both men had recently been working to rebuild Islamic Jihad's military capabilities and plan attacks on Israeli troops and civilians, actions the army called a 'systematic violation of the ceasefire agreement.'
The strikes come against the backdrop of the fragile truce that has held in Gaza since October 2025, under which Israeli forces say they continue operating against what they describe as ongoing militant activity inside the territory. The IDF says it took steps to reduce civilian harm ahead of both strikes, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance, and that troops in the area remain deployed in line with the ceasefire terms. The claims about both men's roles and activities come solely from the Israeli military, with no independent verification or comment yet from Islamic Jihad itself, a pattern typical of strikes carried out under the ceasefire, where Israel's accounts of who it targets and why are rarely challenged in real time by the other side.
