Thousands of mispallelim who spent Rosh Hashanah in Uman are making their way home this week, with buses carrying travelers through border crossings across Eastern Europe following the conclusion of Yom Tov.

The return journey began in large numbers after Rosh Hashanah ended Sunday night, as travelers departed Uman for airports and transportation hubs in neighboring countries. With Ukrainian civilian airspace remaining closed, those traveling to and from Uman must make at least part of the journey overland through countries including Poland, Romania and Moldova.

Footage circulating from the return operation shows buses and groups of travelers gathered at a European transit point as the large-scale journey home continues.

According to figures provided by Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, approximately 46,000 Hasidic pilgrims entered Ukraine ahead of Rosh Hashanah this year, with the heaviest flow recorded in the days immediately preceding Yom Tov.

The large number of travelers has also affected transportation on the return route. Travelers heading toward Poland were advised to avoid the Medyka-Shehyni crossing where possible and use alternative crossings, while temporary access restrictions were introduced at Chisinau Airport amid increased passenger traffic from those returning from Uman.

The annual Rosh Hashanah kibbutz in Uman draws mispallelim from around the world to spend the Yom Tov near the tziyun of Rav Nachman of Breslov. This year's Rosh Hashanah ran from Friday evening through Sunday night, concentrating much of the return traffic into the days immediately following Yom Tov.
