HONG KONG — Towering waves battered the harbour front at Heng Fa Chuen on Monday as Super Typhoon Ragasa closed in on the city, raising fears of one of the most destructive storms in recent memory.

Officials have issued the highest storm warnings, urging residents to stay indoors and prepare for severe flooding, landslides, and widespread power outages. The financial hub braced for impact as Ragasa’s winds and storm surge threatened coastal neighborhoods.

Authorities warned that the typhoon’s intensity could rival — or even exceed — some of the most powerful storms to hit Hong Kong in decades, with damage expected across infrastructure, transport, and daily life.
