Ecuadorian and U.S. forces conducted joint military operations on March 3, 2026, targeting designated narco-terrorist organizations, marking a historic first U.S. land-based action against cartels in Ecuador. The operations underscore both countries’ commitment to combating narco-terrorism, organized crime, and corruption, following Ecuador’s 2024 declaration of internal armed conflict amid escalating gang violence.

U.S. Southern Command Commander, Gen. Francis L. Donovan, praised Ecuador’s armed forces for their courage, professionalism, and determination in confronting terrorism, violence, and corruption. The collaboration reflects strengthened regional security partnerships and an integrated approach to dismantling criminal networks that threaten public safety and stability.

Accompanying video footage, released by SOUTHCOM, shows night helicopter raids conducted with infrared technology, highlighting tactical precision and coordination. The footage concludes with the display of U.S. Southern Command and Ecuadorian armed forces emblems, symbolizing joint resolve against drug trafficking and organized criminal activity. Analysts note that these operations demonstrate both operational capability and strategic intent, reinforcing the bilateral commitment to maintaining security and combating transnational threats in Latin America.
