YEMEN WAR GOES VIRAL: Houthis And Giants Brigades Trade Dueling Battlefield Videos
Yemen’s civil war is once again playing out on screens as much as on the battlefield, with both sides pushing out dramatic videos of their latest operations on October 17, 2026. The military media arm of Ansar Allah, better known as the Houthis, released footage it said shows attacks on Saudi-aligned forces in Al-Yatmah, in northern Al-Jawf. The clips show ground operations, explosions, and the destruction and seizure of several military vehicles, with fighters seen celebrating over captured weapons and equipment they say belonged to Saudi-aligned troops. Videos like this are meant to project strength, and they come as fighting flares again across multiple fronts. The Houthi account has not been independently confirmed, and the number of casualties, if any, has not been made clear.
On the other side, the Southern Giants Brigades, which fight alongside government-aligned forces and are part of the Saudi-backed counteroffensive, released their own video showing strikes on Houthi positions at the Al-Mudaraba front in Lahj. The footage is shot from above by drones and appears to show precision hits on vehicles and gatherings in rocky terrain. Al-Mudaraba matters because it borders western Taiz and links Lahj with routes toward the western coast, and recent reports describe reinforcements and airstrikes there as the Houthis pushed toward nearby tribal areas. Fighting has also been reported this month in Taiz, Marib and Al-Jawf, which suggests a wider push rather than a single clash. As with the Houthi video, the Giants Brigades footage comes from a party to the war, so its claims about what was hit and who was killed remain unverified, and each side is likely to keep claiming the upper hand.
