Seven U.S. Marines from the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center traveled to Ushuaia, Argentina, to train alongside Argentine Marines from the 4th Marine Infantry Battalion. The bilateral cold-weather and mountain warfare exchange ran from September 9 to 21, 2026. Over those two weeks, the troops practiced cross-country skiing, avalanche response, crevasse rescue and glacier travel. They also trained in tactical movement and enemy-contact drills, and finished with a force-on-force exercise.

The Marine Corps says the exchange strengthened shared capabilities, trust and interoperability, and improved both forces' readiness to operate together in harsh, remote cold-weather environments. The video released with the training carries a confident message that U.S. forces hold the advantage over any adversary, in any climate and any place. The release does not name a specific adversary or tie the training to any current operation. It describes the event as a knowledge exchange between partner forces, and a similar exchange took place in the same city in 2024. What remains to be seen is whether these training links lead to larger joint exercises in the future.
