CRANE CRASHES ONTO TRACKS: Brazilian Monorail Hits Wreckage, Only Operator Injured
A São Paulo monorail train on Line 15-Prata slammed into a large crane that had collapsed onto the elevated track near São Lucas station on October 24, 2026. The impact damaged the front of the train, and part of the crane broke off and fell onto the avenue below. Only the crane operator was injured, and no passengers were harmed. The images of the wrecked crane across the tracks have people asking how much worse it could have been.
Monorail service has been suspended between Vila Prudente and São Lucas, and passengers are being rerouted by bus. The operator is investigating what caused the crane to collapse, and the cause has not been announced. Line 15-Prata has had other incidents in recent years, including a head-on collision between two trains and pieces of concrete falling from its elevated beam. Until the investigation is finished, it is not clear how long the closure will last or what safety questions it will raise.
