During a visit to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, on August 13, Vice President JD Vance told U.S. troops that President Donald Trump plans to travel to Alaska as part of an effort to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Meeting with members of the 501st Combat Support Wing and the 99th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron, Vance praised the strength of the U.S. military, saying:
“As you all know, it is impossible to bring peace anywhere, unless the bad guys are also worried that we’ve got a hell of a fine air force, and a hell of a fine military to back up the peace to begin with.”
The Alaska trip is expected to serve as a strategic meeting point for high-level discussions, given its geographic proximity to both Russia and the Asia-Pacific region. The remarks reflect the administration’s belief in pairing diplomacy with military strength to achieve conflict resolution.
