A dramatic crash in Los Gatos, California, on Thanksgiving evening left a local coffee shop completely destroyed, though miraculously no one was inside to be harmed. Surveillance footage captured a 90-year-old driver speeding between 70 and 100 MPH—far above the 20 MPH limit—before smashing into the establishment shortly after 9 PM.

Authorities say the store was closed and unoccupied at the time, avoiding what could have been a catastrophic tragedy. Everything inside the shop was destroyed in the impact, including furniture, equipment, and inventory.

The elderly driver was hospitalized in “serious but stable” condition. Investigators are examining the possibility that alcohol may have contributed to the incident, though formal confirmation has not yet been released.

Police emphasized the remarkable luck involved: under normal circumstances, the shop would have been busy with customers on Thanksgiving evening. The high-speed crash could have caused multiple injuries or fatalities, highlighting the extraordinary fortunate outcome in this case.

Officials continue to investigate the crash and review surveillance footage to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the impact, as well as whether additional charges could be pursued in connection with reckless driving and potential DUI.
