A road rage incident in Wawayanda, New York, on December 11, 2025, left a 31-year-old man in critical condition after being shot by an off-duty police officer, authorities confirmed. The injured man, identified as Wallace Fisher, was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.
According to New York State Police, the incident occurred following a traffic dispute near a car wash. Fisher allegedly approached the vehicle of off-duty Kingston police officer Anthony Simon and swung an object, reported by witnesses to be a knife, inside the officer’s vehicle. In response, Simon discharged his firearm twice, striking Fisher.
Eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage corroborate a sequence of events suggesting that Simon acted in self-defense after a physical threat emerged during the confrontation. No charges have been filed against the officer as the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are reviewing all available evidence, including video and witness statements, to determine the circumstances of the shooting. Both the State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are involved in the investigation.
Officials have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid confrontations on the road, emphasizing that investigations like this can take time to ensure all facts are accurately established.
