A 6-year-old boy named Coco, who was previously rescued from a pond near his Deltona neighborhood last summer, was rescued again on Christmas night after entering another nearby pond. Emergency responders located him around 6:30 p.m. off Conyers Court, where he was found in chest-deep water.
Coco, who has autism and is nonverbal, has a known attraction to water. Following his previous incident in August 2024, he had started swimming lessons to improve water safety. Despite the scare, deputies report that Coco was cold but unharmed.
Air One and local deputies coordinated the rescue, ensuring the child’s safe return home. Authorities spoke with Coco’s family about enhancing safety measures around the house and emphasized the importance of wearing his AngelSense tracker at all times.
While the incident caused concern for the community, deputies expressed relief that Coco was safely rescued, highlighting the importance of vigilance for children with special needs, especially those drawn to water.
