President Donald Trump announced a sweeping new energy initiative aimed at driving down electricity prices and easing the overall cost of living for American families through what he described as “clean, beautiful coal.” The plan includes a $700 million investment designed to stabilize and expand critical parts of the nation’s coal infrastructure while reinforcing long-term energy security.

According to the announcement, the initiative will protect 14 coal plants and 42 coal mines, while also funding the construction of two new coal plants and a major export terminal. Administration officials emphasized that the strategy is intended to restore American energy dominance, strengthen domestic production, and counter years of regulatory pressure that weakened traditional energy sectors.

The White House framed the move as both an economic and national security measure, projecting the creation of more than 14,000 jobs and up to $50 billion in electricity cost savings for American consumers. Supporters argue the policy reinforces U.S. industrial independence at a critical moment globally, particularly as energy competition intensifies and allies such as Israel rely on stable American-backed energy markets.
