ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST, CA — A 22-year-old hiker was rescued near Mt. Lawlor after using his iPhone’s SOS emergency feature to send a 911 text for help.

According to authorities, the hiker reported he was lost, injured, and stuck. The message was transmitted directly to Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, complete with his exact GPS coordinates — a critical detail that allowed rescuers to locate him quickly.

Deputies dispatched Montrose Search & Rescue, Air Rescue 5, the U.S. Forest Service, and Los Angeles County Fire. Air Rescue 5 ultimately spotted the stranded hiker, lowered a medic, and hoisted him to safety.

Officials praised the technology and the coordinated response, noting that “saving lives is priority one.” The incident highlights how emergency SOS features can be life-saving in remote and dangerous conditions.
