Israeli political analyst Amit Segal likened the current atmosphere inside Israel’s leadership to the tense silence that preceded Operation Cast Lead, suggesting that strategic discussions about potential U.S. military action against Iran are being kept tightly under wraps. Segal’s remarks came during commentary on recent exchanges between the United States and Israel regarding possible coordinated responses to the crisis unfolding in Iran.

When asked by a reporter how much coordination there has been between the United States and Israel about the possibility of an American attack on Iran, Segal said a “heavy cloud of silence” surrounds Israel’s decision‑making, and that leaders “prefer not to comment.” He compared the current communications posture to periods before past Israeli military operations, where officials advised secure messaging and avoided public disclosure of plans, adding, “In that sense, the situation is quite similar. One thing is certain. Israel will not learn about it from the news.”

The commentary reflects heightened regional anxiety as widespread protests in Iran escalate amid a brutal government crackdown that rights groups report has killed hundreds of demonstrators and triggered tens of thousands of arrests. Iranian authorities have blamed foreign interference for unrest that has spread across all 31 provinces, while U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly warned Tehran against using force and said the regime has reached out to negotiate, even as he continues to weigh “very strong options” in response to Tehran’s actions.

According to Israeli government sources, Israel is on high alert for the possibility of U.S. intervention in Iran, although officials have not detailed specific plans or disclosed what level of coordination has occurred between Jerusalem and Washington. Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio have discussed Iran in recent security consultations, suggesting ongoing strategic dialogue.

Segal’s analysis also touched on historical U.S. presidential decisions, criticizing former President Jimmy Carter’s human‑rights‑focused approach to foreign policy and contrasting it with President Trump’s posture, which he described as firm but purposeful. Segal argued that Trump intends to act decisively if necessary, though he emphasized that striking Iran at this moment involves complex choices. Options discussed by Segal included targeting missile systems, nuclear infrastructure, or key Revolutionary Guard elements, and even contemplating a high‑value strike against senior regime figures.

The analyst suggested that a final decision could be known within days to a week, underscoring the fluidity of the situation. His commentary illustrates the uncertainty facing both Israeli and American policymakers, who must balance deterrence, diplomacy, and support for Iranian protesters demanding greater freedom while guarding against broader escalation.

Segal’s remarks shed light on how Israeli leaders are managing communications with the public and media at a moment of intense strategic deliberation — a posture that reflects caution, alliance coordination, and awareness of the ramifications of any military action in the region.
