Dallas police announced the arrest of three men in connection with a New Year’s Eve shooting from the Margaret McDermott Bridge over Interstate 30, as well as a separate road-rage incident that targeted a family vehicle, according to law enforcement officials. The arrests follow weeks of investigation into incidents that authorities say endangered motorists and families on busy North Texas roadways.

Police identified the suspects as Anthony Acevedo, 20, Jose Alarcon-Sanchez, 18, and Anderson Derce Lara, 25. Investigators allege that on December 31, 2025, gunfire was discharged from the Margaret McDermott Bridge onto traffic below, prompting a large-scale response. Officers later recovered more than 100 shell casings from the bridge area, and multiple firearms were seized during subsequent searches.

Authorities also linked the suspects to a November 2025 road-rage incident in which shots were fired at a van carrying three adults and three children, including a three-year-old. Police say the family narrowly escaped serious injury. Derce Lara has been charged with six felony counts of aggravated assault in connection with that incident, while the investigation continues into the full scope of each suspect’s alleged involvement.

According to police and court records, Acevedo faces misdemeanor charges and was released on bond. Alarcon-Sanchez and Derce Lara remain in custody, with officials confirming that immigration holds have been placed on the suspects. Law enforcement emphasized that the case is ongoing and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux condemned the alleged actions, stating that firing weapons in public spaces and toward occupied vehicles represents a grave threat to innocent lives. He pledged that the department will pursue full accountability for those responsible and reiterated the city’s commitment to public safety.

The arrests have drawn renewed attention to concerns over violent crime on major highways and the dangers posed by reckless gunfire. Authorities urged the public to report suspicious activity and emphasized that endangering motorists—especially families—will be met with aggressive investigation and prosecution.
