Emergency first responder Yanky Super, a volunteer paramedic with Hatzalah, survived being shot in the back while helping victims during the December 15, 2025, terror attack at Bondi Beach that claimed six lives, including two rabbis and a child.

In a video message thanking supporters, Super described the harrowing moments when he was struck. He explained that he activated the duress button on his radio, which he credits with deflecting the bullet away from his spine while causing injuries to his lungs. His quick thinking, coupled with the rapid response of fellow Hatzalah volunteers, likely saved his life.

“Within minutes, my colleagues arrived under fire,” Super said, praising the bravery and coordination of his fellow responders. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he emphasized the importance of teamwork and dedication in emergency medical services during active threat situations.
