At least five people were killed and ten others injured after Russia launched one of its largest overnight assaults on Ukraine, firing around 500 drones and 50 missiles across multiple regions, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The widespread attack targeted several cities, causing significant damage to infrastructure and residential areas. Emergency crews responded to numerous fires and rescue operations throughout the night as air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming projectiles.
Ukrainian officials described the assault as part of Russia’s continued campaign to pressure civilian populations and critical infrastructure ahead of the winter season. Kyiv condemned the strikes as “terror attacks” aimed at breaking public morale.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that many drones and missiles were intercepted, but debris from those shot down caused additional fires and injuries. Local authorities have urged residents to remain in shelters amid fears of renewed strikes.
