Authorities in Southport, North Carolina, confirmed that at least three people were killed and eight others injured after a gunman opened fire from a boat at a popular waterfront bar. 

The attack took place near the American Fish Company restaurant and Southport Yacht Basin late Friday, where witnesses reported a vessel pulling up before shots were fired directly into the crowd. 

Southport’s city manager told local media that the suspect fled the scene by boat and remains at large. Law enforcement agencies, including local police and the Coast Guard, are actively searching for the shooter. 

Scanner reports initially indicated at least seven victims, but officials later confirmed multiple fatalities and injuries. Emergency responders rushed the wounded to nearby hospitals, while the waterfront area has been cordoned off as the investigation continues. 

Officials described the situation as “active and ongoing”, urging the public to avoid the area until the suspect is apprehended.

 The tragic incident has shaken the small coastal community, known for its quiet harbors and tourist-friendly atmosphere. Authorities are expected to release more details as the investigation develops.
