A tragic road accident in Romania has claimed the lives of seven Greek nationals who were supporters of the PAOK football club. The victims were traveling near Timisoara on January 27, 2026, en route to a Europa League match against Lyon in France when their minibus collided head-on with a truck. Romanian authorities confirmed the fatalities, while three additional passengers were reported in critical condition.  

Dashcam footage from the minibus shows the vehicle overtaking other cars before swerving into the oncoming truck. After briefly correcting course, the minibus veered back into the truck’s path, causing a massive fireball that engulfed both vehicles. The footage has raised questions regarding driver impairment or possible intent, though investigations are ongoing.  

Greek media reported the victims were dedicated PAOK supporters, highlighting the emotional impact of the crash on the club and its fan community. Local emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the fire and assist survivors, though the collision’s intensity left little chance of survival for those trapped.  

Authorities in Romania have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash, examining mechanical factors, road conditions, and potential human error. The incident has drawn condolences from PAOK officials, fans across Europe, and the broader football community, marking a tragic moment in the club’s history as it mourns the loss of its supporters.
