A dramatic scene unfolded in Chicago on Thursday when a man stole an ambulance outside Loretto Hospital, setting off a dangerous police pursuit through city streets. Authorities said the suspect, described as a Black male, sped away from the hospital with a paramedic still trapped in the back of the vehicle.

According to police, the paramedic managed to escape by jumping out of the moving ambulance a few blocks away, as multiple police units began pursuit. The chase quickly escalated when the suspect rammed into several vehicles, including two police squad cars, prompting one officer to open fire. No one was struck by gunfire, officials confirmed.

The pursuit ended violently near Cicero and Chicago Avenue after the ambulance crashed into several vehicles. The suspect was apprehended at the scene and transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities reported that three police officers and four civilians sustained minor injuries as a result of the collisions. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported.

Law enforcement officials praised the quick response of the paramedics and officers involved, noting that the situation could have been far more tragic given the high-speed nature of the chase and the presence of civilians on the roadway.

The Chicago Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident, including how the suspect managed to gain access to the ambulance outside Loretto Hospital and what may have motivated the theft. Charges are pending as detectives review footage and eyewitness reports.
