U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of intensifying military aggression despite recent diplomatic exchanges.

“Putin, since the meeting in Anchorage, since the phone call, when the European leaders and Zelensky were at the White House the following Monday, has done the opposite of what he indicated he wanted to do; in fact, he has, in a despicable manner, increased the bombing campaign,” Bessent stated.

The remarks underscore growing frustration within the Trump administration over Russia’s continued bombing campaign, which has escalated rather than eased following high-level discussions. According to Bessent, President Trump is prepared to consider a full range of options in response.

“So I think with Trump, all options are on the table, and I think we'll be examining those very closely this week,” Bessent added, signaling that new measures against Moscow could be announced soon.

The Biden-era diplomatic framework that carried into early 2025 appears to have faltered, as Russia continues military operations despite repeated calls for restraint from Washington and European allies. Bessent’s comments suggest that the U.S. may be entering a decisive phase in its policy toward Moscow.
