In East Charlotte, North Carolina, two workers hanging Christmas lights in a private homeowner’s yard were approached and questioned by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents on Saturday, November 15. The encounter, captured on video by homeowner Rheba Hamilton, shows the agents speaking to the workers in Spanish, asking about their country of origin.  

The workers did not answer the agents’ questions, and no arrests were made. While some observers have expressed surprise at federal agents questioning holiday workers, the incident reflects the ongoing commitment of the Trump-era strengthened border and immigration enforcement policies that prioritize verifying legal work status when necessary.
