Russian President Vladimir Putin violated a cease-fire agreement with President Donald Trump just four days after it was reached, launching a massive overnight assault on Ukraine involving approximately 450 long-range drones and 70 missiles.

According to Ukrainian officials, the barrage struck power plants, energy infrastructure, and civilian buildings across at least five regions of the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks deliberately targeted Kyiv’s power grid, part of what he described as Russia’s ongoing campaign to leave civilians without heat and electricity during the winter.

“This is a direct violation of the energy truce,” Zelensky said, adding that Moscow continues to use infrastructure attacks as a weapon against the civilian population rather than focusing solely on military targets.

The cease-fire, brokered with U.S. involvement, was intended to halt strikes on energy facilities and prevent humanitarian crises amid freezing temperatures. The scale of the assault — one of the largest combined drone and missile attacks in recent months — underscores escalating tensions and raises fresh doubts about Russia’s willingness to honor negotiated agreements.

Emergency crews across Ukraine worked through the night to restore power and assess damage, while air defense systems intercepted a portion of the incoming weapons. Ukrainian authorities warned that further attacks remain likely as Russia maintains pressure on critical infrastructure.
