EAST HARLEM, NEW YORK — Two people are in custody following a shooting outside Taino Towers on 2nd Avenue early Monday evening, according to the NYPD.

Police say officers witnessed an 18-year-old fire a weapon during a gunfight with a 15-year-old boy. Officers then gave chase and fired shots as they moved in to break up the exchange.

The 15-year-old was struck in the leg and transported by EMS to Harlem Hospital. Authorities are now working to determine whether he was hit by a police bullet or by gunfire from the other teen.

Both individuals involved in the shootout have been taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
