A series of Ukrainian drone and missile strikes overnight targeted multiple key energy facilities across Russian-controlled territory, including oil depots in Crimea and power infrastructure in mainland Russia. The latest wave of attacks marks one of Ukraine’s most extensive long-range operations in recent months, signaling Kyiv’s continued resolve to disrupt Moscow’s military logistics and economic assets.

Footage and local reports indicate that explosions erupted at several oil depots in Crimea, causing massive fires visible from miles away. In addition, the Voronezh power station in western Russia sustained heavy damage, with its main generator room reportedly “severely compromised,” possibly from a cruise missile strike.

Further south, in Russia’s Rostov region, a 110 kV substation in Taganrog was set ablaze following another strike, halting operations and plunging parts of the area into darkness. Emergency crews scrambled to contain the fires as Russian state media downplayed the extent of the damage, calling it “localized.”

Ukrainian officials have not officially confirmed responsibility for the strikes, consistent with Kyiv’s policy of strategic ambiguity regarding operations inside Russian territory. However, Western analysts note that such attacks align with Ukraine’s broader campaign to degrade Russia’s ability to sustain its invasion and retaliate against energy infrastructure used to fuel the war effort.

The strikes come as winter approaches, raising concerns in Moscow over potential energy disruptions and civilian unrest. The attacks also highlight Kyiv’s evolving capabilities in long-range precision warfare, particularly with drones and modified cruise systems capable of penetrating Russian air defenses.

While Russia has vowed retaliation, the growing reach of Ukraine’s strikes demonstrates that even deep inside Russian territory, the war’s frontlines are no longer confined to the battlefield — they now extend into the heart of Russia’s industrial and energy network.
