California Man Jailed for Insurance Fraud After Deliberately Causing Dangerous Wreck
A California man has been held accountable for insurance fraud after intentionally causing a serious traffic incident. Kenneth Pham Tran, 53, was sentenced to 60 days in a San Jose jail following the scheme. Dashcam footage captured the entire event, showing Tran repeatedly brake-checking a semi-truck after becoming upset with the driver.
According to the District Attorney’s office, Tran felt the truck had cut him off and responded by cutting the truck off multiple times with his Jeep Wrangler. He then submitted a false insurance claim related to the incident. The court ordered him to pay $3,001 in restitution to Bill Jacobsen Trucking and $1,200 to Progressive Insurance.
Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara emphasized that such crimes not only endanger public safety but also drive up insurance costs for honest drivers and businesses. This case demonstrates how law enforcement and insurance investigators work together to protect consumers. The successful prosecution serves as a warning that fraudulent schemes will be thoroughly investigated and punished.
