ZONGULDAK, Turkey — A brand-new luxury yacht worth nearly $1 million sank just 15 minutes into its maiden voyage, forcing passengers and crew to leap into the sea.

The vessel, named Dolce Vento, had been launched Tuesday off the coast of Eregli in northern Turkey’s Zonguldak province. Dramatic amateur video captured the moment the yacht tipped to one side before sliding beneath the waves.

Witnesses said the crew and guests scrambled to safety as the yacht began to list sharply. Everyone on board managed to escape without serious injury.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, though reports suggest a possible design or balance flaw may have led to the sudden sinking.

The incident has drawn international attention, both for the dramatic footage and for the stunning loss of a vessel that had only just set sail.
